Grocery Shopping Spreadsheet

Grocery shopping is one of those things you HAVE to do but I don't know many people that actually enjoy it.  Sometimes it is nice to take your time and go through each aisle looking at the items closely and other times you just have to run in and grab a few things as fast as you can.

About a year ago I decided that I would walk through our local grocery store with my list of groceries and start putting the aisle number next to each item so that I could organize my grocery list by aisle number.  It took a lot of time at first but it was worth it!  Once I got home I put together my grocery shopping spreadsheet by aisle number and the next trips to the store were a breeze! I still tweak it almost every time I go because I add more items, or sometimes they change locations of items at the store, but for the most part it has been the same since I made the initial categorizing trip through.  And it has really made grocery shopping less of a chore.  I keep a few printed off and hung up in our mud room so that I always have one ready when I need to start checking off items we need.

Sometimes I use this website to create my grocery list for me.  You go through the lists, check the items you want and then input your email address to have it emailed to you.  It is very easy and quick and helps you think of the items that you may not otherwise remember to pick up.

Happy Shopping!

Organizing by aisle is a HUGE time savor. When I got an iphone a few months ago I started emailing the list to my phone, and keeping track of what I need on there instead of on the fridge where I used to have my list, so I always have it with me. Great idea writing down the aisle numbers. Do you find if you shop at another grocery store it takes you 10x as long now?! It is funny we both had grocery shopping on our minds today :)

I asked my wife to do the same thing, organize the list by aisle, it really cut down on the shopping time. We discovered an even better solution, we have started buying groceries online. It saves a ton of time, but get this, we save over 40% on groceries compared to our local grocery store, and they deliver for FREE! It just doesn't get better than that. Yes honey, I will do the grocery shopping, please hand me the laptop! We posted our savings and comparative pricing at harvestgroceryonline.com for all to see. Try it, you'll like it!
